Community Clean Up Day

another amazing day up here!!! I have to say that this is one of the most amazing places to be when the weather is co-operating (summer or winter).

After a morning of chores around home - gardening, scraping paint off the deck etc. we headed off for Community Clean Up day.

In the Yukon Non-Profit groups can raise money by cleaning up garbage on the roadsides. Each segment is approximately 5km and you get $250.00 per segment. Our community has 4 segments and the money raised goes to the fire department, the local ski club and the community recreation association.
About 30 people came out for 2 hours of garbage collecting and then a fun get together back at the community centre with Ice Cream and other treats. A huge success for all accounts. We all ended up spending another 2 hours at the community centre just visiting and enjoying friends and the great weather.

As usual, Hunter had a great time. He was in charge of recycling (bottles, cans etc.) while I got the litter side of the coin. By the end of our 2 hours he had over 40 items to show for his efforts.
