Hunter's class (along with 8 other classes) went to Army Beach last week (we do have beaches and lakes here...) for a school fun day. I went along as a parent volunteer and it was a great day for everyone.
They spent the morning doing organized activities (potatoe sack races, 3 legged races, ball throwing, parachute games etc.) and then had the afternoon to free play on the beach.
Army Beach is at the head of Marsh Lake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsh_Lake), which is about 45 minutes outside of town. It is a very shallow bay so the water is relatively warm (remembering that everything here is mountain and glacier fed).
