With a revolving door of family coming and going, and lots of events to keep everyone busy, it was definitely an action packed 2 weeks. We needed a holiday from our holiday when we got home (more on that in the next post).
The events over the 2 weeks that kept us busy were:
1) Hunter's 6th birthday weekend (including Fireworks)
2) July Street Dance at the Park
3) Annual Sturgeon Point Running Races
4) Daniel and Jane from Whitehorse
5) Fenelon Falls Annual Fair
6) Cousin Bella's 3rd birthday weekend
Interspersed with all of the above was a visit from Grandpa Bob & Grandma Liz, Uncle Neale visiting with the fireworks & bubble machine and play time with Aunt Carolyn, Uncle Mark, Cousin Erin, Aunt Patty, Uncle Simon, Cousin Bella, Cousin Charlotte, Aunt Dawn, Uncle Colin, Cousin Aidan, Cousin Nolan, Cousin Robin, Great-Grandma and a quick drop in with Aunt Michelle, Cousin Gigi and Cousin Bryant.
Hunter specifically requested his birthday be at Grandma Lynne's this year after his great time last year. He picked a pirate theme and wanted only family there. It was wonderful that Grandma Liz and Grandpa Bob could come for a 4 day weekend to be part of things as well...
Ann outdid herself yet again with the cake (and cupcakes) and had arranged all the pirate banners, plates etc. to complete the theme. As usual, this little boy was also spoiled with lots of wonderful gifts from everyone. A very special one came from Grandpa Bob - a paddle just his size that cousin Kenzie from Saskatchewan had made. We had to get out and test that out!
With the entire family heading out to the annual Sturgeon Point running races, we had lots of "firsts" for both competing and results. Hunter did really well and surprised us all by choosing to participate in a number of events.
We had hoped to participate in the canoe races but they were called due to weather (much to Hunter's disappointment). Aunt Patty and Uncle Simon were the race organizers this year and did a great job.We had a full 24 hours once the weekend crowds departed before our good friends Jane and Daniel from Whitehorse came to visit for a few days. They were down for the summer staying at their Grandma's house in Oakville and it was wonderful to spend a few days together and share all the great stuff of our cottage.
In between all the "events" we kept ourselves busy swimming in the lake, tubing and water skiing behind the boat, heading to Fenelon in the boat for ice cream, bike riding, playing at the park, chasing bubbles, golfing or just heading out for a peaceful walk.
Last year Hunter and I went to the Annual Fenelon Fall Agricultural Fair with Grandma Lynne and it was a hit. We decided that we had to share the experience with Dad and it did not let us down.It is definitely not the "EX" or Klondike Days yet it is perfect for a rural 6 year old. We launched right into showing all the rides to dad (Hunter very proudly manages the coupons), moved into some midway snacking and then spent the evening in heaven at the Truck and Tractor pull! Mom quickly became the official photographer as there was no getting between "the boys" at this event.
Lots of pulling power, dirt flying and noise.
The other key activities of the week were all about "skill development" - getting certified as a golf cart driver (by his 10 year old cousin) and becoming captain of the boat (under Dad's tutelage - Bella also started her training)...
