Valdez Glacier Paddling

One of the things that we really wanted to do in Valdez / Prince William Sound was paddle with glaciers and icebergs.

There are some guided tours that take you out into large glaciers in the sound, however most of them take 8 hours, cost a bunch of money and aren't all that kid friendly.

Since we were travelling with canoes and kayaks, we decided to create our own glacier adventure....

About 5km out of town, the Valdez Glacier was perfect for us. Hunter and I took the canoe so he could show off his newly developed canoeing skills from summer camp, and Tim paddled one of the kayaks so he could go off exploring on his own.

It was an amazing experience - we paddled amongst the icebergs for about an hour and had a great time exploring all the little caverns and cracks. Lots of creaking sounds and dripping water, along with interesting currents and mucky spots.
