valdez salmon fishing

The pink salmon were running, which means lots of fish (so thick you could walk across), lots of sea life (Sea lions, seals & sea otters) and a good bunch of hungry bears all mixed in with lots of fishermen.

It's really hard to explain - similar to salmon fishing in haines - the awe that comes with fishing during a salmon run. 2 out of 4 casts gets you a fish.

You are standing there fishing and are 5 -10 feet away from the Sea Lions and Seals that are also fishing. The sea otters are there to catch any fish that anyone else drop. The eagles swoop down to get their own fare share. And the bears come out of the bushes and walk on by to go down to the ocean to fish.

You are definitely in ALASKA!!!

The dark swaths are all pink salmon that are spawning up the river. The metal is the weir that is protecting the small stream and trying to push them towards the fish ladder on the right.
