One of the best things about where we live is the Community Centre that is about 2 km down the road. It offers lots of programs and is great for kids at holiday time.
Today was pumpkin carving and hall decorating to prepare for the halloween party Tuesday night. We went last year and really enjoyed the arts and crafts but had no real interest in actually carving a pumpkin. This year, Hunter has been excited about going and just kept asking if he could take his chainsaw to carve...
There were about 15 people
there when we arrived and Hunter immediately gravitated to the paint table where some people were painting the big pinatas that get hung full of candy. He decided that he wanted to paint his pumpkin(s) so we started down that road again this year.After lots of trading of pumkins, paint brushes and paint pots (between the 2 of us based on his attention span) we finished our pumpkins and he headed off to play. I pitched in with the hall decorating work for a while and got to blow up my share of balloons, along with streamer hanging etc.
Hunter decided that he also wanted to carve a pumpkin so we got ourselves a 3rd pumpkin and set off to work. He was very clear that he wanted a BIG mouth and round eyes so mom's only job was working the big knife and the scooping (he wanted to part of the icky stuff...). The new pumpkin carving kits come with these great little knives that are perfect for kids - think downsized grapefruit knife - so Hunter was able to do all the finesse work himself.
We rounded out the day with some good running around in the playground outside with his friends Dani and Cole from across the road. It was good to burn off that excess energy that shows up due to missing nap time :)
